I love Nexus, it sounds so professional — it goes without saying though, since you are an A+ producer.

The song definitely lifts my spirits, I must say! It flows so well and it doesn’t get hung up too long — it keeps moving and keeps things interesting. You add enough dynamics and your own distinguished stylistic choices to make this song very unique.

I love it!

I absolutely love the melodies you use here -- very interesting ideas at work! The only thing I was somewhat disappointed in was the ending, as it seemed to lack any satisfying conclusion -- instead opting for a fade out. Overall though, I enjoyed this and the Final Fantasy vibes I got from it!

Deemo-R responds:

Super happy you liked it! For you, Bosa, I will strive to create full endings and not do lazy fade-outs anymore, haha :D

I'm only going to add a little feedback if you'll allow me the honor! You have an excellent song here with such diverse chords and interesting choice of instruments. This pretty much checks all the boxes of orchestral trailer music -- it has the builds and flowing nature that music supervisors can use. Overall, this is a solid composition and an excellent triumphant theme.

I do think the key is too high however. If the french horn players had to play from 04:42 to the end, they would be cussing you afterwards. It's difficult to maintain such high notes for that long, though it can be done.. I would adjust the key if you ever send this score to play live.

Lordant responds:

Thanks for the feedback again!

Lowering the key lower might be favorable for live performances, as you said. Although I'm not quite sure if it will be THAT diffucult, the longest hold, considering pauses, is near 3 seconds long. Do you think expanding the pauses will work well, or it'll be still too air-requiring for high register?

This is well written track, and I enjoyed the melody you went with. The synths that accompany the main melody do well to support the feelings you were going for. This was definitely worthy of a front page spot!

There are a few things that I believe could have been done differently, but the thing I think could use improvement is the bass and the low end of the track. Everything seems to be more in the mid to high end and there's just more space for some extra power in the lows. Maybe experiment with more than one bass and see if you can get a more powerful sound that's not too muddy. Also, though I'm aware of time constraints, I found the ending a little bit jarring. It starts to build up again and then ends faster than buildup. The volume effect would have been more effective if you went back into the chorus one more time rather than just ending it there, as it makes it seem like there's no reason for the effect to be there unless it's introducing something new.

Again, you have a well produced song here and it deserves praise. I think you'll be able to expand your resources eventually and as you progress in skill, the quality of your music will increase. You're already well versed in your musical art and I can't wait to hear more from you in the future!

NoStereo responds:

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm getting some ideas on how I can get the low end to sound more powerful I'll probably use on the next song I make. The ending was definitely a result of time constraints and feeling like I didn't have enough time. I should have tried to put in one last big drop at the end before the outro.

Thanks for the praise and helping me see what I need to focus on next!

Absolutely beautiful piece. You make excellent use of the womens choir (I love soprano voices lol). I listened to this more than once, and it still hit me emotionally the second time. The harp is written in a way that evokes a feeling of longing or desperate love -- I can feel the emotions you put into this work.

If you're looking for criticism, then the only thing I would've worked on a little more is when the progressive percussion comes in -- it's a bit too light in my opinion. I think a timpani, multiple bass drums, and some extra cymbals would've done it some justice.

I think this might be my favorite submission to the contest so far. Very nicely done!

Lordant responds:

Thanks a lot! The use of choir was planned before I started creating this piece, I'm glad you liked it :] And yeah, I planned to make the drop a bit more detailed (including percussion), but I had no enough time, at least I kept the original idea

Apologies for the late review. First of all, the mastering and production quality of the instruments sound great to me -- very well done! The vocals and the music remind me of something some dumbass guys would have done in their garage in the 90's -- which is a good thing haha. I love the style of music you chose for this, and I could tell you knew what you were doing.

My only gripe is the vocals need a bit more digital enhancement because the vocal quality does stand out from the instrumental quality, or at least enhance it the best you can. Even just a bass boost on the vocals would probably bring it up to speed and would maybe be good enough.

As the song stands though, it is quite exceptional! Very well produced and you stick to your style for the most part, not going too far off the beaten path.

Thank you! I think I just need to invest in a new mic tbh. My mic is just a USB microphone designed for like talking while gaming and making youtube videos. It is not meant for singing but it's all I got, so I tried to process it to sound better as best I could, and it still needs help lol.

I do try to mix things up, the verses sounding extra angsty and hardcore-punkish, while the choruses, still sounding punk but just a little poppier in comparison. I try not to deviate too much cause I don't want to confuse listeners - just keep em going.

I really appreciate your review! This really helps me a lot. Tysm ily <3

Right off the bat I have to point out that the music is pushing through the ceiling quite a bit, which is simply a mastering issue that I think can be resolved in your future tracks. There are effects plugins in FL Studio that can help with this, but I always do it the old school way and master everything by hand; but that's just me. Also I noticed that the overall lows in this song are almost non existent which makes it stand out. Again, all this can be resolved in mastering. I know it's tedious and time consuming, but sometimes you to go through and master each instrument individually to achieve the highest quality sound available, and I know for a fact that music supervisors in the industry will immediately dismiss any song that doesn't sound like it's 'broadcast ready.' However, you get better the further along you go and I'm still learning myself!

I love the hardcore sound you have going here, and I've been a fan of this kind of music since I was a kid and I was addicted to the Mortal Kombat movie theme haha. This song actually has that same vibe and you did a really great job at capturing the sound you were trying to express. Your work is solid gold in my opinion, and I think your future tracks are going to blow everyone away!

You have a really good track here, although it has its flaws you managed to produce something well constructed. The vocals are drowned out by the music overall and even when reading the lyrics it's still hard to follow because of the overpowering music. In the future, I would focus heavily on mastering, especially if you decide to do more vocals. Even with a budget microphone the vocals can be digitally enhanced to sound crisp and clear. Dive into the equalizer and bring up the highs and then adjust the lows just a little and you'll have a more coherent sound. I'm sure whatever program you use will have boosting and enhancing effects plugins as well, so I would recommend you make use of every resource you have. Also I noticed that some of the rhyming words don't match, but it's a very minor thing to fuss about haha. Almost every artist I know cuts corners in their lyrics, so it's no big deal.

Other than the vocals, I have no complaints at all in regards to the structure of the song or the instrumentation. You knew what you wanted to do and you put it out there for us to hear!

Very nice!

SUNSCREECH responds:

thank you, i checked your entry to round 1 and you're a super tough competitor! ^^

This is absolutely brilliant -- one of the best pieces I have heard here in a long time. It is so refreshing to listen to music composed by one who truly understands what sounds good. Listening to this .. you actually remind me of myself.

VociferousMusic responds:

Thanks for the praise! I'm very glad you liked that piece. :)
